About this role

St. Luke’s University Health Network is seeking a fellowship-trained Advanced Cardiac Imager to join the Cardiovascular Service Line at St. Luke’s University Hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. This position offers the opportunity to help expand our established comprehensive advanced cardiovascular imaging program.

The successful candidate will add expertise in cardiac CT, MRI and Nuclear cardiology, provide high-level clinical interpretation, and partner with cardiovascular and radiology specialists to expand access, optimize workflows, and advance imaging-supported clinical decision-making across the Network.

The position is primarily focused on advanced cardiovascular imaging, with opportunities to participate in clinical cardiology based on the physician’s interests, training, and program needs. For the right candidate, the role may offer leadership opportunities as St. Luke’s expands its imaging capabilities, technology infrastructure, and multidisciplinary cardiovascular services.

Clinical Scope

  • Cardiac CT: coronary artery disease evaluation, calcium scoring, CT-derived fractional flow reserve when applicable, structural heart and transcatheter valve planning, pulmonary vein assessment, electrophysiology planning, cardiac masses, pericardial disease, and aortic and great-vessel assessment.
  • Cardiac MRI: ventricular function and volumes, ischemic heart disease (including stress MRI), myocardial viability and perfusion, cardiomyopathies, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, infiltrative and inflammatory disease, myocarditis, valvular disease, congenital heart disease, masses, and advanced tissue characterization.
  • Nuclear Cardiology: Including cardiac PET for stress testing, inflammation, infection and viability assessment and utilization of the novel tracer Flupiridaz.
  • Multimodality imaging: integration of CT, MRI, PET, nuclear cardiology, and echocardiographic findings as appropriate for training and credentialing.
  • Clinical integration: participation in multidisciplinary imaging conferences and direct consultation for complex cardiovascular decision-making and procedural planning.

Program Development

The physician will play a central role in expanding an established high-quality imaging program across St. Luke’s. Key responsibilities include:

  • Refine cardiac CT and MRI protocols to improve diagnostic quality, patient safety, consistency, and efficiency.
  • Expand appropriate access to advanced imaging close to home.
  • Collaborate with cardiology, radiology, cardiac surgery, electrophysiology, structural heart, technologists, information technology, and industry partners.
  • Support appropriate utilization, peer review, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging imaging technologies with meaningful clinical value.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

The Advanced Cardiac Imager will be an addition to our established cardiovascular imaging program and collaborate with multidisciplinary programs spanning structural heart, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, heart failure, cardiac surgery, and general cardiology, Advanced imaging expertise will support complex cardiovascular decision-making and procedural planning, including transcatheter valve interventions, electrophysiology procedures, cardiomyopathy assessment, complex coronary disease, and aortic pathology. The physician will also guide referring clinicians in modality selection, protocol design, interpretation of complex or incidental findings, and appropriate follow-up evaluation.

Innovation, Technology, and Education

  • Board certification or eligibility in Cardiovascular Diseases.
  • Additional dedicated fellowship training in advanced cardiovascular imaging.
  • Demonstrated advanced competency in cardiac CT and cardiac MRI; Level III or equivalent expertise preferred.
  • Additional dedicated training in cardiac PET, nuclear cardiology, and/or advanced echocardiography preferred.
  • Eligibility for Pennsylvania medical licensure and clinical privileges at St. Luke’s University Hospital.
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and commitment to multidisciplinary cardiovascular care.

Preferred Experience

  • High-volume and complexity cardiac CT and MRI interpretation during training or practice.
  • Structural echocardiography/CT experience.
  • Development and implementation of imaging protocols and clinical workflows.
  • Experience within a multidisciplinary cardiovascular program and interest in emerging technology.
