About this role

A Little About Us
Washington Avenue Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital is a premier, full-service emergency and specialty animal hospital located in San Leandro, proudly serving the greater East Bay and Bay Area communities. We are owned and operated by our doctors and hospital director — meaning every decision is made by the people who practice and work here, with a focus on exceptional patient care, team well-being, and long-term sustainability.

Our hospital is built on collaboration, clinical excellence, and mutual respect. We are committed to creating an environment where specialists can do the best work of their careers while maintaining balance and longevity.

Located in the heart of the East Bay, we offer easy access to Oakland, Berkeley, and the broader Bay Area — one of the most dynamic and culturally rich regions in the country.

 You’ll Never Practice Alone
At Washington Avenue, our cardiology service is supported by a robust, fully integrated multi-specialty team available seven days a week. Whether it’s a complex congenital case, an urgent arrhythmia consult, or collaborative management with internal medicine or emergency, you’ll have the resources and people around you to deliver exceptional care — and you’ll never have to figure it out alone.

You’ll be supported by:

  •       Experienced emergency and specialty veterinarians across multiple disciplines
  •       A cohesive, fully supported multi-specialty team committed to cross-departmental collaboration
  •       Highly skilled technicians with cardiology and specialty training
  •       A culture that values mentorship, open communication, and team-first medicine

The Facility & Medicine
Our modern, well-equipped hospital is designed to support a wide range of cardiology cases — from routine echocardiography and Holter monitoring to advanced interventional procedures. We are committed to building a best-in-class cardiology program backed by advanced diagnostic infrastructure and a deeply collaborative clinical team.

You can expect:

  •       A diverse and rewarding cardiology caseload with strong referral relationships throughout the East Bay and greater Bay Area
  •       Advanced echocardiography, electrocardiography, and diagnostic imaging capabilities
  •       Support for interventional cardiology procedures in a well-equipped facility
  •       Strong technician utilization and cardiology-trained support throughout your caseload
  • A team-first approach to complex, multi-system patient care

Scheduling & Work-Life Balance
We understand the demands of specialty medicine and are deeply committed to a schedule that supports both outstanding patient care and long-term career sustainability. Our cardiology program is designed with flexibility at its core, giving you control over your day while ensuring patients receive timely, high-quality care.

  •       Highly flexible scheduling tailored to the rhythms of cardiology practice
  •       Collaborative approach to building a schedule that genuinely works for you
  •       A sustainable caseload with room to grow the program at the right pace
  •       No corporate mandates — scheduling decisions are made locally by the people who work here

Who We’re Looking For
DVM or equivalent from an accredited institution

  •       Board certification in Cardiology (ACVIM – Cardiology) required
  •       Experience with echocardiography, interventional procedures, and cardiac diagnostics
  •       Strong communication skills and a compassionate, client-centered approach
  •       A collaborative mindset and genuine passion for advancing specialty cardiac care
  •       Experience developing or growing a cardiology program is a plus

Both seasoned specialists and those early in their specialty career are encouraged to apply.

Compensation & Benefits

  •       Competitive salary with performance-based incentives
  •       Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  •       Generous continuing education allowance and paid CE time off
  •       Coverage for licensing, board dues, and professional memberships
