Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, is seeking applications for a full-time, employed faculty position as a Critical Care Cardiology Intensivist in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The Critical Care Cardiology Intensivist is proficient and experienced in the rapid assessment, triage and management of multiple conditions including high risk acute coronary syndromes, associated mechanical complications, acute lethal arrhythmias, cardiac arrest including targeted temperature management, placement and management of temporary venous pacemakers, severe valvular disease including acute endocarditis with resultant critical illness, cardiogenic shock, placement and management of pulmonary artery catheters, emergent decision making in mechanical circulatory support assessment and subsequent management (including intra-aortic balloon pump, left ventricular assist devices such as Impella CP, Impella 5.0 and 5.5, right ventricular assist devices, and support to VV and VA ECMO patients), managing patients before heart and other solid organ transplant, acute aortic syndromes, acute respiratory failure as a result of acute cardiac conditions requiring ventilator management, cardiac tamponade and emergent pericardiocentesis and drain management, urgent transesophageal echocardiography, high risk pregnancy in cardiac patients and delivery management coordination with Maternal Fetal Medicine, and more.
Job Description
The position consists of 7 consecutive days of attending in the CVICU every third week from Saturday to Friday in a rotation with two other established Cardiac Intensivists. In a true Cardiac Intensivist model, every third week following the CVICU week is off, followed by a work week primarily in the offices of the Jefferson Heart Institute establishing an outpatient practice. The candidate will take an active part in teaching Cardiovascular Disease Fellows, medical house staff and medical students. Opportunities for research commensurate with experience and interest may be accommodated.
The candidate joins a group of over 50 full-time academic cardiologists in an expanding multidisciplinary practice in a supportive environment, with strong clinical, research and teaching programs, including this Critical Care Cardiology core group, a robust Structural and Interventional Cardiology section, a highly experienced Electrophysiology subdivision, and an expert Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant program.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a MD/DO degree, possess board certification in cardiovascular diseases and be Board eligible or board certified in Critical Care Medicine and should possess a license or be eligible to practice medicine in Pennsylvania by the time the appointment starts.
